Sarah Bratton Hughes is a senior vice president and head of ESG & Sustainable Investing for American Century Investments, a premiere investment manager headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. She is based in the company’s New York office.

Sarah is responsible for the driving and executing the firm’s sustainable investing strategy and the management of its ESG research platform and active ownership practices. In her role, she oversees the firm’s dedicated ESG & Investment Stewardship team. Sarah and her team serve as the center of ESG expertise for all investment teams – implementing firmwide ESG research and training, innovating ESG assessment tools, managing the ESG engagement and proxy voting protocol and driving sustainable investment initiatives and client solutions.

Head of Quantitative Strategies Northern Trust Asset Management

Michael Hunstad is head of quantitative strategies at Northern Trust Asset Management. He serves on the asset management executive group, and leads all equity portfolio management and research for quantitative, index and tax-advantaged strategies.

Previously, Michael was director of quantitative research where he was responsible for leading Northern Trust Asset Management’s factor-based research and product development programs.

Prior to joining Northern Trust, he was head of research at Breakwater Capital, an algorithmic trading firm and hedge fund. Previously, he was head of quantitative asset allocation at Allstate Investments, LLC and a quantitative analyst with a long-short equity hedge fund. He also served as an adjunct professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Michael holds a Ph.D. in mathematics, an MBA in finance, an M.A. in econometrics and a bachelor’s degree in economics. He has published more than 80 articles and papers in professional and academic journals including Pensions & Investments, European Pensions, the Journal of Index Investing, the Alternative Investment Analyst Review, the Journal of Financial and Strategic Decisions and the Journal of Corporate Treasury Management. I currently work as a Climate Solutions Specialist in the ESG Client Coverage Group at MSCI. My 18 yrs of financial services experience includes Climate Change Investment Research, Institutional Portfolio Management and Wealth Management, as well as E&S Risk assessments at firms such as Citibank, Deutsche Bank, Macquarie and SICM. I have also worked across various themes including clean tech, real estate, water, and agricultural-based investment strategies as well as ESG/SRI strategies.

I also serve as a Trustee and Chair of the Finance Committee of the Robert and Patricia Switzer Foundation, and previously was a Member of the Board of the US SIF, Board Member and Treasurer of Confluence Philanthropy, and as a trustee and member of the finance committee of the Jesse Smith Noyes Foundation. I currently teach courses in Sustainable Finance, Statistics and Agriculture as an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s Earth Institute in the Sustainability Management Program.

My academic background includes a PhD in Land Resources from University of Wisconsin, Madison, an MS in Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures from Auburn University, and a BA in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut.
